Ten individuals convicted of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced charges of circulating untruths regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing hurtful comments about the couple's age disparity of 24 years.
The court handed down suspended jail terms of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The complete verdict has still to be made public.
A persistent conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons initiating a defamation lawsuit in the United States against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the first lady's identity.
Their legal filing alleges that Owens brushed aside any factual proof that refuted her assertions opting to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The pair entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
